Tonight’s fights were great, every fight from top to bottom were exciting and competitive. There were four fights that aired live on spike TV and six on the undercard. There was suppose to be one more undercard fight but it was cancelled when Phillipe Nover had a seizure. According to the UFC he is ok but obviously not cleared to fight. I went 7-3 tonight making me 23-14 overall but a quick turnaround with UFC 103 on Saturday. Here is a recap of the televised portion of tonight’s action.

Nate Quarry vs. Tim Credeur - Man where to start! This fight was awesome from start to finish. Fight starts out with both fighters filling each other out. About two minutes into the fight they find their range and the punches start flying. Credeur lands a left to the temple and Quarry goes down. Credeur gets his back and slips in a rear naked choke, but Quarry escapes. Quarry looks very slow compared to Credeur as round one ends. Round two starts out with Credeur landing good shot but Quarry catches him with a short right hand that’s puts him to the mat. Solid ground and pound from Quarry the rest of round two. Final round looked like a replay of the last round as Credeur starts out strong but get hit with a big right and goes down. Credeur gets back up but has nothing left in the tank and goes down again. Fight ends with them throwing bombs, just a great fight. Quarry wins by Unanimous Decision (29-28)

Carlos Condit vs. Jake Ellenberger- Quick start to the fight as Jake catches the left kick attempt of Condit and drops him with a right. Jake starts to man handle Condit on the ground and looks so much stronger then too. Back to there feet and the same thing happens to Condit and he’s in big trouble. Submission attempt by Jake that Condit gets out and stands up. Condit briefly get mount but Jake basically pushes him off and gets back up. Another submission attempt that Condit gets out of again but they end up with Jake on top. Round ends with Jake landing some huge shots but Condit stays up. Jake take him down to start the second round and puts him against the fence. Carlos is actually getting the better of Jake from the bottom. Carlos attempts a kamura and takes the mount and reigns down some elbows. Jake reverses and gets top position with a minute left in the round but really doesn’t capitalize as the bell rings. We open round three with Jake taking Condit down as he tries a kick. Back to their feet and Condit takes him down but gets himself into a choke. He gets out of the choke and controls the rest of the round. Condit wins by Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29)

Gray Maynard vs. Roger Huerta- Starts out pretty slow and turns into a boxing match with each fighter landing some good shots. Huerta is staking Maynard all over the cage and finally land a nice flurry that hurts Maynard. Maynard goes for the taken down but it’s partially stuffed and Huerta land with another nice combo to end the round. To open round two Maynard land a few good shots that stumble Huerta a little. Huerta keeps coming but Maynards gets some good counters in, Huerta down for a moment by a quick jab. Huerta is throwing a lot of punches but isn’t landing a lot of them while Maynard is countering well. Round ends with Maynard’s timing Huerta’s stand up getting in and out with little damage. Final round starts and Maynard connects with a good overhand right that buckles the knees of Huerta. Maynard continues to get in land a few then back out on touched, finally getting a takedown with 3:45 left. Maynard get a deep Kamura that looks like Huerta’s arm was broken but he doesn’t tab and gets out. How did he get out of that? Minute left in the round and they get back to their feet just to have Maynard take it to the mat again and the horn sounds. Maynard wins by Split Decision 30-27, 30-27, 28-29)

Nate Diaz vs. Melvin Guillard- Fights starts and right away Guillard drops Diaz with a fast right hand. He lets him back up and Diaz gets the takedown but Guillard is right back up and throws Diaz down. Back on their feet but Guillard taken down again and again they are back up. Diaz is cut above the right eye and it’s bleeding slightly into the eye. The round ends on their feet without much landed but Guillard takes the round. Diaz taunts his opponent (as usual) before the beel rings to start round two. Diaz lands some good knees to the midsection before Guillard get another throw. Back to their feet and Guillard goes for the takedown and get caught in a choke and is forced to tap. Diaz wins by Submission (choke)

Great Night of fights is really the best way to sum it up. See Roger Huerta for the first time reminded me how good he was. Wish he would resign with the UFC but that doesn’t seem likely. Here is the list of the night Bonuses

Fight of the Night— Nate Quarry vs. Tim Credeur
Knockout of the Night — Jeremy Stephens
Submission of the Night -– Nate Diaz
