Thiago Alves will face John Howard next, not Mike Pierce
Less than 24 hours removed from Thiago Alves accepting the challenge by Mike Pierce to fight, things appear to have changed. Pierce had called out Alves on MMAJunkie radio when discussing Alves performance at UFC 117 against Jon Fitch. When word got back to Alves he stated he’d take that fight and would ask Dana White for it to happen at UFC 123.
Not so fast though, both MMAJunkie and MMAWeekly are reporting Alves will be facing John Howard next and not Mike Pierce. The welterweight fight will take place at UFC 124 in Montreal, Canada on December 11th, which is headlined by the welterweight title fight between Georges St-Pierre and Josh Koscheck.
Obviously Alves didn’t get to White in time to make the Pierce fight happen but a fight with Howard will be a good one. Both fighters are coming off recent losses, but Alves has lost two in a row and desperately needs to prove that he can make 170lbs.
Pierce will have to wait for his chance to fight Alves, but Joe Silva will find someone good for him next.
