shane carwin 300x201 Shane Carwin is “Back” Training and More Determined “I am back in the gym in pursuit of UFC Gold.  I am going to bring the very best Shane Carwin back to the octagon” – Shane Carwin

This was the message that Shane Carwin (12-1) posted for those of his fans who follow his online blog.  Yes, Shane is back in the gym since having to go through back surgery this past year.  His back surgery was successful and he is more determined than ever to return to the UFC Octagon by May of this year.

Standing at 6ft 2in and hoping to weigh in at “around 265” the former UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion is claiming that he would be able to make-weight without having to cut.  His plan includes switching to completely organic food and cutting out all supplements.  There is even a photo included as proof of Shane’s choice for a birthday cake, which is really a sweet potato for his 36th birthday.

Yummy!

Carwin has already began training and lists as his training so far as  light rolling, wrestling practice, running, strength and conditioning, and some pad work.  In addition he hopes to be back to full sparring within a week.  Overall, the Colorado fighter seems more determined than ever, in good spirits and craving for action.

Shane has not fought since UFC116 when he fought Brock Lesnar and lost that fight by submission via an arm triangle choke.  Prior to that, Carwin did amazingly well with a 12 fight winning streak and all fights won within the first round.  Due to the surgery he had to miss out on UFC125 on January 1st, 2011 where he would have fought Roy Nelson.

Shane trains with Greg Jackson and Trevor Whittman at Jackson’s Submission Fighting at the Grudge Training Center. Shane is an engineer by trade and has continued to work in his field while at the same time pursuing his MMA career.  He also volunteers as a wrestling coach at the University of Northern Colorado.
