Kennedy vs. Miller 3 Scrapped; Rockhold gets shot at Kennedy

The rubber match will have to wait. The rumored, almost finalized bout between Tim Kennedy (12-3) and Jason “Mayhem” Miller will not be held on March 5th at Strikeforce’s next event in Columbus. Instead, Kennedy will now face American Kickboxing Academy rising star Luke Rockhold (7-1) in Ohio.

Rockhold is no stranger to the Strikeforce organization. Six of his eight professional fights have taken place within the Strikeforce organization. In fact, since competing for the Strikeforce organization, Rockhold has yet to lose a fight. His last three fights have been on the Strikeforce Challenger’s series where it appears he is being groomed for the big stage.

It looks as though his time has come.

Kennedy on the other hand, is looking to return to the win column after suffering decision loss in a tightly contested bout to current belt holder Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. He has not fought since last August; however ring rust shouldn’t be an issue for the Army Ranger.

Could a decisive victory lead to another title shot against Souza?

Some have commented on the gap between Kennedy’s fights, however fans should be more intrigued with the long layoff Rockhold will have. Come fight night, Rockhold will not have fought in over a year. He was scheduled to fight Matt Lindland in October, but a shoulder injury forced him to drop out of the match.

While Kennedy is lined up, Miller now has no opponent, nor has there been any mention of him even fighting in the near future.
