Maybe the third time will be a charm for Phil Davis who will now be facing Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in the main event of UFC Fight night 24. According to MMAJunkie, UFC president Dana White today announced that Ortiz has been forced out of the UFC Fight Night 24 main event.

Davis (8-0 MMA) has been on a carousal of opponents as he was originally expected to fight Matt Hamill at April’s UFC 129 event, but when Matt Hamill was pulled to face Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 130, Jason Brilz was tabbed to face Davis. Now Davis has his third opponent to train for, plus his fight has been also been moved up nearly a month.

Nogueira will be a major step up in competition for Davis, who will be making is firs ever main event appearance.

Davis made his pro MMA debut in 2008 and has fought four times in the UFC. He last fought at UFC 123 against Tim Boetsh where he used a modified hammerlock, now named “the Mr. Wonderful” to earn the victory and “Submission of the Night” honors.

Nogueira (19-4 MMA) is the twin brother of former UFC champ Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, recent lost a unanimous decision to Ryan Bader at UFC 119. Prior to the defeat, Nogueira was 2-0 in the UFC and was riding a seven fight win streak dating back to 2008.

UFC Fight Night 24 takes place March 26 at KeyArena in Seattle and airs live on Spike TV.
