High Risk, High Reward For Paul Daley At BAMMA 5

For Paul Daley, more than just the BAMMA Welterweight Championship will be on the line when he takes on Yuya Shirai this Saturday evening at BAMMA 5. A loss for Daley will put him out of a highly anticipated bout with the Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz

Daley (26-9-2) is taking perhaps the biggest risk of his career with his upcoming bout. The hard-hitting Brit openly stated that before taking on Diaz he wanted to get another fight under his belt. The catch to this proposition is that if he is unable to capture the title in Manchester, he will likely forfeit all title contention he had prior.

The decision to take another fight before his title shot comes as quite a surprise. Since his departure from the UFC, Daley has had three fights, all in different promotions. None of these fights have been against opponents who are inexperienced in any way. Most recently, Daley knocked out Scott Smith in devastating fashion to close out the year for Strikeforce. After three tough opponents, it’s surprising that Daley feels the need to fight one more time.

Daley has put himself in a dangerous situation with this bout and although he has the opportunity to bring home two belts in two consecutive fights, there is also the potential that he loses both in one fight. Despite all the criticism, Daley will be stepping in to fight Saturday night either way and it’s guaranteed that Diaz will be watching.
