MMA Fighter Rankings for May 2011
The month of April only saw two major events between the UFC and Strikeforce, even Bellator took a weekend off during the month. With the lack of action there wasn’t much movement in the rankings as only six fighters in the rankings fought last month.
The six that did fight went 4-2 in their matches but those two loses were from fighters that were facing the top guy in their division. Both Jake Shields and Mark Hominick lost their title fights by unanimous decision at UFC 130 and barely moved in the ranks. While Hominick stayed in the same spot, Jake Shields dropped one spot due mainly because his friend and Strikeforce welterweight champion, Nick Diaz defeated Paul Daley this month.
Georges St. Pierre, Gilbert Melendez and Jose Aldo all won their title fights and stayed in their current spot. Melendez though will most likely move up to the number two spot once the Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard trilogy is completed this month at UFC 130.
The month of May only has one UFC event and no Strikeforce events, but Bellator will be closing out their forth season and four tournament champions will be crowned. The Bellator Middleweight champion, Hector Lombard who finds himself at #5 the rankings this month will be in action later this month.
