MFC 30 Up Close and Personal Break Down

MFC30

The Maximum Fighting Championship is back with fiery action north of the border with MFC 30.  Two excellent Co-Main Events make this card a very solid and entertaining event.  Mark Pavelich and company always put on a tremendous show at tonight should be no different.

Brian Cobb vs. Drew Fickett

Drew Fickett and Brian Cobb will be meeting at Lightweight in clash of two fighters both trying to stake their claim as the number one contender for the vacated championship.  Brian Cobb signed a four fight deal with the UFC but was unceremoniously dumped after his fight didn’t go his way.  He sports a 17-6 record and comes into this fight on a two fight winning streak.

Drew Fickett has been everywhere and fought everyone.  He sports a 41-13 record that encompasses twelve years and many thousands of miles traveled.  He’s a talented journeyman Lightweight, looking to at last become a champion and sprout roots.  If Fickett is able to win this fight, he will find himself fighting for the Lightweight Championship in his next outing for MFC.  Drew Fickett has the experience advantage, the big fight advantage and should be able to control the action and get a win tonight.

Pete Spratt vs. Marcus Davis

This is one of those classic fights where you know it’s going to be exciting.  Marcus Davis loves to box and he will stand and trade with anyone in the world.  Pete Spratt also loves to fight standing and has incredible kicks and knees to go with super quick and heavy hands.   This one could be whoever lands first wins, but it could also end up being a situation where Davis looks for the takedown and fights on the mat where he holds a clear advantage.

Pete Spratt has leg kicks, knees, and knockout power in both hands and he is content to stand up and slug it out.  He will likely be the quicker of the two and could hurt Marcus Davis early, thus enticing Davis to shoot for takedowns.  In a world where takedowns are supreme, Marcus holds an advantage.  If they stand, either could be knocked out.  If Marcus takes the fight down, he should win the fight.

Tomas Denny vs. Sheldon Westcott

It’s tough getting used to calling Thomas Denny anything other than “Wildman.”  His nickname fits and he has enjoyed success in the sport of MMA for a decade now, and also is a very successful coach as well.  These two fought back in February to a Split Draw.  The rematch should be like the first, an exercise in youth against experience.

Thomas Denny is looking to stick around in MFC and put some fights in and a win here will help him do just thought.  He’s a well-rounded fighter, capable and has good cardio.  Denny holds a massive experience edge and this one should be very fun while it lasts.  Either look for a submission by Denny or Sheldon Westcott to catch Denny standing.

Jamie Toney vs. Dhiego Lima

Jamie Toney brings an established 14-6 record into this fight with Dhiego Lima.  Lima is an upstart with an unblemished 5-0 record and will be looking to stay perfect tonight in Canada.  Jamie does have an advantage in experience, and will be making his MFC debut.  He’s trained by Jorge Gurgel and has 13 finishes in his 14 victories.

Dhiego Lima is a very promising young fighter and a win over Jamie Toney would be a big step towards climbing the ladder in the MFC Welterweight division.  Lima is already 2-0 in the MFC so a win here could catapult him towards title contention.  He brings in a very slick submission game and also has KO power in his hands.  This should be a very good fight between two fighters who are trying to make names for themselves in the sport.

Robert Washington vs. Curtis Demarce

Two fighters who are both coming off of loses in high profile fights, this is a must win for both fighters.  Robert Washington was seen at MFC 29 being finished by Hermes Franca.  Curtis Demarce was seen last in the MFC cage battling and dropping a split decision loss to Marcus Davis also at MFC 29.  Both fighters need a win here and this will be a solid fight.

Both fighters are very compact and strong, and this fight could end quickly.  Both guys possess solid ground games and sometimes when you get two wrestlers, you end up with a boxing match.  This fight could be very entertaining and could yield the big KO.  Don’t blink during this fight, because outside of the Davis/Spratt fight, you can expect this to be fight of the night.
