Strikeforce Challengers 18 Results
Back at its new home in Las Vegas, Strikeforce Challengers 18 brought a five bout main card to Showtime. Headlined by a lightweight scrap between Jorge Gurgel and Joe Duarte that many thought would be a slugfest. While their bout was a lot more controlled than anyone figured, their 15 minute battle ended the night in entertaining fashion.
An entertaining night of fights but one that had it share of controversy and questionable calls. It all started off with a nasty cut by Derrick Mehmen in the opening fight that had him painting the cage red. Referee Herb Dean called a stop to the action and many thought the fight would be stopped, but luckily for Mehmen that wasn’t the case and he pulled out the decision win.
It continued in the next bout as just seconds into the bout between Rhona Rousey and Sarah D’Alelio it was over and no one really knew why. Rousey jumped into a slick armbar and thought she felt something snap and heard D’Alelio say tap so she began talking to referee Steve Mazagatti and he quick called an end to the bout. Replies show there was no tap, but what done was done and Rousey gets the win.
