Former Strikeforce lightweight champion, Josh Thomson has withdrawn from his scheduled bout at next month’s Strikeforce: Heavyweight Grand Prix Semifinals card. The American Kickboxing Academy fighter was set to make his first appearance of 2011 against Maximo Blanco on September 10th.

The often injured fighter tweeted out a nasty picture of his right foot showing a lemon size mass forming on top of the foot (pictured). There has been no official announcement for Strikeforce regarding the injuring, but the injury has been confirmed by Sherdog.

Ouch!

No news on how the injury was suffered or if a possible replacement opponent for Blanco.

Thomson last fought on New Year’s Eve Dynamite 2010 show, losing a unanimous decision to Tatsuya Kawajiri. Before that lose, Thomson had defeated Pat Healy and Gesias Cavalcante to open the 2010 campaign 2-0. Having only fought four times since September of 2008 due to injuries, Thomson looks to be yet again on his way to a year-long layoff from fighting due to injuries.

The Strikeforce: Heavyweight Grand Prix Semifinals card will feature the four remaining heavyweight’s in the tournament. Josh Barnett will take on Sergei Kharitonov and Antonio Silva will face Daniel Cormier, who recently replaced Alistair Overeem. The main card will also feature a middleweight title fight, as Ronaldo “jacare” Souza will make his second title defense against Luke Rockhold.

The main card will air on Showtime, while the undercard can be seen on HDNet.
