BAMMA 7: Trigg vs. Wallhead Preview

| September 9, 2011 | Reply

This Saturday we have Strikeforce’s World Grand Prix Heavyweight Tournament Semi Finals, Bellator’s Welterweight Quarterfinals and the up and coming British organization BAMMA, with their seventh event, simply called BAMMA 7.

Though the more unknown of the three organizations, BAMMA has put on some great fights so far, featuring such fighters as Murilo “Ninja” Rua, Frank Trigg, and Ivan Salaverry. Most recently, they signed UFC Veteran and former Middleweight title challenger, Nate Marquardt.

The Main Card:

The main event features former UFC and Pride stand out, Frank Trigg (21-8). This will be Trigg’s second BAMMA appearance after a successful TKO (Doctor Stoppage) victory over John Phillips. Trigg was originally scheduled to fight against BAMMA Middleweight Champ Tom “Kong” Watson, but unfortunately, Watson had to pull out from the fight due to back injuries. Stepping in for Watson will be “Judo” Jim Wallhead (21-6), who will be making his first BAMMA appearance.

The co-main event is a catch weight bout at 176 pounds between Paul Daley (27-11-2) and Jordan Radev (23-4). Daley will be coming into this fight on a two fight losing streak while his opponent, Radev, is on a four fight win streak. Both fighters obviously want the win, but if you’re Paul Daley, you want the win and you want it quick. Out of Daley’s 27 wins, 20 of them are by KO or TKO, and they usually come in the 1st or 2nd round. The longer the fight goes, the better it looks for Radev who carries 12 out of his 23 wins by way of decision.

Also on the card will be BAMMA Lightweight Champion Rob Sinclair (10-2) against last-minute stand-in Diego Vital (6-1). Sinclair was originally supposed to Leonard Santos (9-3), but this fight was scratched when Santos refused to fly to the event… No flying and no shows seems to be the theme for this week in the world of MMA. None the less, this fight will be the classic matchup of the striker vs. the grappler. Sinclair with 8 of his 10 wins by TKO or KO vs. Vital with all six of his wins coming by way of submission.

The main card will also see former UFC fighter Andre Winner (11-6) vs. 2 time BAMMA veteran Jason “Daddy Cool” Ball (18-9). Andre Winner is coming off a 2-4 run with the UFC where he was last seen losing a three round war against WEC vet Anthony Njokuani.

We would have seen another former UFC star on this card in Efrain Escudero (17-3), but he was forced to pull out due to visa issues.
