Jake Shields Looking to Rebound After His First Loss in Nearly 6 Years

| September 15, 2011 | Reply

Former Strikeforce Middleweight Champ Jake Shields hasn’t really wowed anyone since his high-profile signing with the UFC last Summer. In his promotional debut last October he earned a split decision victory over Martin Kampmann via sleep jitsu. That earned him a title shot at GSP where the two managed to put one of the largest crowd in UFC fast asleep after an incredible night of fights leading up to the Main Event between the two.

Shields lost his father and manager Jack late last month which led some to believe he may pull out of his upcoming fight  in the NOLA this coming weekend. Shields knew within a matter of minutes following his fathers passing that he would continue training for the UFN 25 show. This Saturday Night in the NOLA Shields will do what he does best, headlining Mixed Martial Arts Shows. Whether or not he starts up another legendary winning streak  after his first loss in 16 fights is up to Jake Ellenberger.

Like current #1 Welterweight Contender Carlos Condit, Jake Ellenberger is a finisher looking to make a name for himself. ” The Juggernaut” has finished 21 of his 25 victims and is the only man out of 26 to survive a loss to Condit without being finished himself. A win over Shields puts Ellenberger “into the mix”. A win over Ellenberger for Shields would be business as usual. And continuing to headline shows for the biggest promotion in the world is big business.
