Interview: The three sides of Nick “The Headhunter” Chapman
Everyday people in all walks of life put on an alter ego or a different persona. Average Joe’s turn into ruthless business men, quiet athletics become fiery competitors and in the case of Mixed Martial Artist Nick “The Headhunter” Chapman, the nice guy becomes a calculated lunatic when he steps into the cage.
One of the UK’s most promising athletes, Chapman (4-0) is slated to step back into the cage on October 22nd for what will surely be he’s toughest test to date in MMA. Having already won the UK1 light heavyweight championship, “The Headhunter” is looking to add another belt to his collection when he faces the undefeated UCMMA light heavyweight champion Jimi “Poster Boy” Manuwa.
MMAValor spoke with Chapman recently about his upcoming title fight, his past and who is The Headhunter. I’d like to thank Nick for taking to time to chat with me and below you’ll find out Q and A.
Who is Nick Chapman (from your point of view)?
I have three personas:
Nick Chapman (personal) nice guy, friendly, caring and fun
Nick Chapman (business) an honest but ruthless business orientated unstoppable machine. A go getter and man of his absolute word. If he says he is going to do something then know that it will happen.
The HeadHunter a calculated lunatic who can punch through walls, jump over mountains and catch bullets in his teeth and spit them back twice as fast. Nothing on earth can stop this crazy mad man.
What got you into MMA?
The UFC and an uncontrollable and overwhelming desire to fight
What were you doing before you got into MMA?
This is a whole subject matter better left in the past ha ha

Chapman had no amateur exp.
You jumped right into MMA as a Pro with no amateur experience, why was that?
I have never been one to take thing slowly. I just wanted to fight, and as real an environment as the legal system would allow. I had no desire to fight with limiting rules, which would be a massive step backwards from what I was doing before MMA. I need the rush, the challenge and I cannot control the desire to test myself to the limits.
Your 3-0 as a Pro, but you haven’t fought since December of last year, why the long layoff?
I am 4 and 0 and I won a British title in July this year [darn Sherdog!]
Where did the nickname “Headhunter” come from?
I was nick named it in the gym as I was always hunting the head. It was not a good thing to be called really as that approach is that of most beginners, but I liked it so I kept it.
Next for you is a UCMMA Light heavyweight title fight against the undefeated Jimi Manuna. What do you know about Jimi?
I don’t know that much really, I have seen him fight; I know he is undefeated and I also know that I can beat him. My team takes care of that side of things I just do as I am told and focus on what I am going to do and not get wrapped up in him at all really.
How do you envision the fight on going on October 22nd?
I do not see it going out of the first round. It’s MMA and anything can happen, but I really do believe I can beat this guy and it will go my way. I am not over-confident though as I believe that complacency sets in then. This is a massive step up for me and possibly the biggest challenge of my life to date, but that is what I am in it for the challenge. Bring it on I say, can’t wait.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank?
