Bellator 56 Live Main Card Results
Taking place at the same time as the UFC 137 PPV, Bellator 56 takes place from the Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas. The card features the semifinal round of the heavyweight tournament along with a welterweight title between Ben Askren and Jay Hieron.
Main Card (MTV2):
170 lbs. Championship bout: Ben Askren defeated Jay Hieron by Split Decision (48-47, 47-48, 48-47)
- Hieron kept the fight standing in the opening round with some great sprawling but in round two the champ turned over a sprawl to the fights first takedown. Askren kept the fight there the whole round, mixing lay and pay with ground and pound. Hieron got taken down briefly but once he got up he landed the better shots while sprawling. In the final round Hieron took control with his standup as the champ looked to be tired. Heiron drops Askren with a spinning back kick and then lets him up and pours it on to end the fight. This one is close!
265 lbs. Semifinal bout: Thiago Santos defeated Neil Grove by 1st rd. Submission (Rear naked Choke)
- Overhand right from Santos drops Grove like a rock, he follows it with some ground and pound before sinking in a choke.
145 lbs.: Jeremy Spoon defeated Adam Schindler by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
- Excellent first round of grappling between these two fighters, back and forth for five minutes. Spoon comes out in round two landing the better shots on Schindler but he did get taken down once. The final round, like the first two was back and forth and close. Judges are going to have an interesting decision I think.
265 lbs. Semifinal bout: Eric Prindle defeated Ron Sparks by 1st rd. KO
- WOW. The two come out trading a few shots, Sparks throws a leg kick while Prindle lands a left to the temple. Fight Over!
