Diaz Pisses off St. Pierre, Gets Title shot over Condit

| October 30, 2011 | Reply

The strange times leading up to yesterdays UFC 137 continued on through the event and carried right into the post fight press conference. Following a unanimous decision victory by Nick Diaz over the now potentially retired BJ Penn, Diaz went on an insult-laden call out of the welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre in his post fight interview.

What Diaz was laying down was not sitting well with the champ and at the post fight press conference; UFC president Dana White dropped a bombshell. White announced that St. Pierre will make his seventh title defense during the super bowl weekend card, not against Carlos Condit as originally expected but against Diaz.

“He’s the most disrespectful human being I’ve ever met and I’m going to put the worst beating you’ve ever seen on him in the UFC,” says GSP through Dana White.

White would explain that Condit has agreed (doubtful) to step aside so that St. Pierre and Diaz could settle their differences. Condit will be next in line for a title shot in the welterweight division and will also fight on the same card on super bowl weekend.

The response to the news from Diaz…….

“See how I got to come off just to get a fight! I’ve got to be the bad guy, point the finger, make me the bad guy so now I get the fight,” explained Diaz at the post fight press conference.

With the win, Diaz improved his overall record to 26-7 with one no contest and has now won 11 in a row dating back to November of 2007. UFC 137 was supposed to be “Champion vs. Champion” before Diaz screwed that up, things have now come full circle and it’ll once again “Champion vs. Champion” during super bowl weekend.

This time around the UFC better either ditch the early “beauty pageant” for the card or send someone to pick up Diaz and hand deliver him to the festivities.
