Donald Cerrone looks to make it a perfect 2011

There were some who said the WEC Lightweights couldn’t hang with their counterparts in the UFC prior to the merger of of the two Zuffa organizations. Donald Cerrone looks to continue to erase that thought from people’s minds as he looks to make his 2011 perfect. Since coming up to the UFC this year at UFC 126, The Cowboy has remained unbeaten in his four fights inside The Octagon, and will look to keep that trend going as he takes on Nate Diaz at UFC 141.

Cerrone, who has won six straight fights dating back to his time in the WEC, is aiming closer to a title shot with each victory inside the UFC. Adding three bonuses out of his four UFC fights, Cerrone has impressed fans with this stand-up and his submission ability, finishing all but two in his last six, and dominating those fights in impressive fashion.

Cerrone was last seen at UFC 136 where he submitted hard hitting striker Dennis Siver in the first round, earning himself Submission of the Night honors in the process.

After two straight losses in the welterweight division, Diaz made the transition back to Lightweight and notched his first victory in the division since 2010 when he submitted MMA veteran Takanormi Gomi in the first round, gaining Submission of the Night honors as well.

With Cerrone on the rise, if Diaz can capitalize, he can find himself in the mix at Lightweight. With another win though, Donald Cerrone could be finding himself knocking on the door of yet another title shot, his 4th if he should be able to get to there.

The Cowboy hasn’t looked back since dropping his last title fight against current Lightweight contender Ben Henderson, and with another victory, Cerrone would earn his 7th in a row and should push himself near the front of the line to fight the winner of Bendo and Frankie Edgar.

A win over Diaz would make 2011, simply, perfect for the “Cowboy”.
