UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem Medical Suspensions

With the New Year’s Holiday over the Nevada State Athletic Commission earlier today issued their medical suspensions from this past week’s UFC 141. The commission handed out mandatory suspensions to twelve fighters, including both main event fighters and 8 of the 10 main card participants.

UFC 141 took place this past Friday, Dec. 30th from MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The main card aired on pay-per-view, and prelims aired on Spike TV and streamed on Facebook.

The events longest suspension was six month which was handed down to Brock Lesnar (abdominal injury), Nate Diaz (right-eye injury), Vladimir Matyushenko (possible left-knee injury) and Manny Gamburyan (possible right-shoulder injury). Each could have their suspension reduced and potentially return to action earlier once they’ve been cleared by a Doctor.

The full list of UFC 141 medical suspensions included:

Brock Lesnar: Suspended until June 28 due to an abdominal injury, though he can be cleared early by a doctor.

Alistair Overeem: Suspended until Feb. 14 with no contact until Jan. 30 due to lacerations near his right eye.

Nate Diaz: Suspended until June 28 due to a right-eye injury, though he can be cleared early by an ophthalmologist. He was still suspended until Jan. 30 with no contact until Jan. 12 regardless.

Donald Cerrone: Suspended until Feb. 14 with no contact until Jan. 30 due to a lower-lip cut.

Jon Fitch: Suspended until Feb. 29 with no contact until Feb. 14 for precautionary reasons.

Vladimir Matyushenko: Suspended until June 28 due to a possible left-knee injury, though he can be cleared early by an orthopedic doctor. He was still suspended until Feb. 14 with no contact until Jan. 30 regardless.

Alexander Gustafsson: Suspended until Jan. 30 with no contact until Jan. 21 due to right-tibia contusion.

Nam Phan: Suspended until Feb. 29 with no contact until Feb. 14 due to a right-eyebrow cut.

Junior Assuncao: Suspended until Jan. 30 with no contact until Jan. 21 due a cut right cheek.

Dong Hyun Kim: Suspended until Jan. 30 with no contact until Jan. 21 due to left-foot contusion.

Manny Gamburyan: Suspended until June 28 due to a possible right-shoulder injury, though he can be cleared early by an orthopedic doctor and X-ray. He was still suspended until Jan. 30 with no contact until Jan. 12 regardless.

Diego Nunes: Suspended until Feb. 14 with no contact until Jan. 30 due to a cut near left eye.
