UFC 142: Anthony Johnson moves up in Weight and Still Misses Weight

| January 13, 2012 | Reply

Ever since fighters started cutting a large amount of weight there has been fighters missing weight. Mixed Martial Artists Paul Daley, Thiago Alves and Anthony Johnson are notorious for missing weight, having fought several catchweight bouts between the three. For UFC 142: Aldo vs. Mendes, Johnson moved up from welterweight to middleweight to fight Vitor Belfort, which should have solved that problem right?

Unfortunately NO!

Just minutes before the UFC 142 weigh-ins Dana White announced that Johnson has badly missed weight and the fight will take place a catchweight, but only if Johnson’s weight is less than 205 lbs. tomorrow. White went on to call Johnson, who ended up weighing in at 197 pounds (11 lbs. over the middleweight non-title limit), unprofessional for his actions.

If Johnson makes weight tomorrow the fight will take place and Belfort will receive 20% on Johnson’s purse. Should Johnson miss weight yet again he will not be able to fight and let’s just hope that doesn’t happen.

For Johnson this will be his third catchweight bout for him inside the Octagon, not a good thing to have on your resume.

My brain child is MMAValor, something I had wanted to do for a long time and finally it’s here. Been an MMA fan since TUF season one (play catch up all the time) and the obsession started to grow like a weed and as the sport grows so does the love for the sport. I’m a jack of all trades, a very organized person that rides an emotional roller coaster daily.
