Edson Barboza saves the best for last against Etim at UFC 142

| January 15, 2012 | Reply

After coming out on top for the first two rounds by barely out pointing Terry Etim, Edson Barboza turned on the style with a spinning heel kick that connected perfectly sending Etim tumbling to the ground  out cold from the second he connected. The explosive kick is the early front-runner for the best knockout of 2012, improved the Brazilian’s record to 10-0 and earned him knockout of the night.

As the fight started Etim shot for the take down in order to stamp his mark on the fight, Barboza had other ideas stopping him in his tracks and then unleashing some vicious leg kicks causing Etim to rethink his tactics, even when he did manage to get Barboza to the ground a beautiful butterfly sweep meant it lasted for a few seconds and then it was back to attacking the legs of Etim and winning the round.

It was more of the same for Barboza in round two, keeping the fight standing while not letting Etim  find his range or rhythm. Although Etim did land a few kicks he was still second best as Barboza was faster and stronger with his strikes and it was another round in the bag and on course for a well-earned decision win.

Round three was where the magic happened as Etim’s back was against the wall and needed to make something happen. With fight in hand, Barboza landed an epic highlight reel spinning heel kick to Etim’s head that instantaneous rendered the Englishman out cold from the moment it landed.

“When you fight in Brazil, it’s unlike fighting in any other place in the world. In a fight, you try things and hope they work,” Barboza said. “Tonight, it (the kick) worked. It’s something I’ve practiced a lot and I finally was able to land it hard. I’m happy with this outcome and you can expect more of that soon.”
