Antonio Silva vs. Roy Nelson added to an Already “Heavy” UFC 146 Card

MMA fans knew it would be just a matter of tick tocks before the entire Strikeforce heavyweight competitors would start to migrate to the UFC, following the announcement that Strike force would be doing away with the largest weight class in their organization. So far the heavyweight imports have fared well in their octagon appearances, as they are 4-0 since the latter part of 2011. Former Strikeforce heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem has already made his statement, when he flattened Brock Lesnar at UFC 141, and is now set to challenge Junior Dos Santos for the title at UFC 146.

The UFC 146 fight card is starting to resemble that of the first brackets for the still ongoing Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix, that won’t conclude until May 19th, when Josh Barnett and Daniel Cormier fight the last Strikeforce heavyweight bout. UFC 146 may have to change its name to “Night of the Heavyweights” as it has just been confirmed that Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva will be making his UFC debut against “Big Country” Roy Nelson on the same night as the heavyweight championship fight.

Silva took a little longer to arrive than say Fabricio Werdum, Lavar Johnson, or the already mentioned Overeem, and even though he is coming off of a KO loss to Cormier, he still carries with him a mystic, and a reputation for being tough as nails, as he did pound out the legendary Fedor before he fought Cormier.

Nelson stated recently that if he received 100,000 fans on Facebook he would drop to the Light Heavyweight, but he’ll have to put his class drop on the back burner, now that he is to square off against one of the largest MMA competitors in the world. Nelson, as per his usual self, will not back down a millimeter and most likely move directly forward in an effort to take the fight to the big man.

When stated that UFC 146 should be referred to as the night of the big boys, is only further solidified by the additions of Cain Velasquez vs. Frank Mir, and Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Shane Del Rosario, that are both to be featured on the same card.
