Heading into tonight’s TUF Live fight, Team Faber was up 3-2 with three more opening round fights to go. After losing the first two bouts, Team Faber has won the last three and will look to retain control.
Dominick Cruz and Team Cruz need a win bad as the losing is taking its toll on the bantamweight champion. “I’m here to win,” said Cruz as he goes a little bit hard on Tickle following his loss, even going as far as implying Tickle has no heart.
Fighters Andy Ogle and Sam Sicilia are showing signs that the house might be getting to them as they each has a mini (Ogle’s maybe more than mini) breakdown during team training. This is probably why after John Cofer (Team Faber) and Vinc Pichel (Team Cruz) weighed in, UFC president Dana White appeared to give the fighters a pep talk.
Currently holding the control Team Faber has an idea of where they would go with the last two fights of the opening round, but they must win to accomplish this.
John Cofer played with fire in this fight, choosing to stand with the heavy-handed Vinc Pichel instead of taking the fight to the canvas and into his strengths. Now that’s not to say he didn’t try but they were limited and those he did try all failed. Surprisingly though Cofer was holding his own and rocked Pichel early in round two before getting rocked himself. The fight finally went to the canvas when Pichel picked up Cofer and slammed him down, staying up top the remainder of the second round. The fight would go to a sudden death third round but Cofer had little left and got rocked right away. Pichel pounced and quickly moved to a side choke that Cofer couldn’t stop it and the fight was over.
Vinc Pichel wins by 3rd rd. Submission to even things 3-3 and giving control back to Team Cruz.
Now with the control, Dominick Cruz picks Sam Sicilia to take on Chris Saunders next week. With only two fighters left we also know that Andy Ogle of Team Faber will be taking on Mike Rio from Team Cruz.
