Several fighters went missing on the UFC website list of roster yesterday, spurning speculation of their release. Typically when a fighter gets removed from the website it a precursor to them officially being released from the UFC.
Nothing has been announced by the UFC as of yet, but the list of fighter possibly released is lengthy. A total of 10 fighters were removed, all are coming off a loss and most or riding losing streaks.
Steve Cantwell – He started his UFC career with a nasty submission win against Razak Al-Hassan three and a half years ago and hasn’t won since. The former WEC light heavyweight champion has lost an astonishing five fights in a row.
Alex Soto – His last fight was at UFC on Fuel TV: Korean Zombie vs. Poirier, losing to Francisco Rivera by unanimous decision. Soto has lost both of his UFC bouts.
Kamal Shalorus – After going 3-0-1 with the WEC, Shalorus came over to the UFC after the merger. He’s winless in his UFC career at 0-3.
Mike Massenzio – He went 1-2 in he’s first stint with the promotion and was called back after a win outside the Octagon. He’s 1-3 in his latest stint with the UFC (2-5 overall) and lost his last two in a row.
Jeff Curran – He made one fight in the UFC back in 2004, losing to Matt Serra. It took him seven and a half years to get another shot in the big show but he’s lost his last two.
Efrain Escudero – The Ultimate Fighter season 8 winner has lost his last two fights in his second go with the promotion. He was 3-2 but was released after losing to Charles Oliveira in 2010.
Aaron Rosa – Getting knocked out in his last outing by James Te-Huna, Rosa is 1-2 in the UFC.
Eric Wisley – Making a drop to featherweight in his UFC debut, Wisley is 0-2 inside the Octagon.
Dongi Yang – Came into the UFC undefeated but has lost three of his last four.
Jorge Lopez – Lost a very close decision to Amir Sadollah in his last outing and has lost two in a row in the UFC.
