With all the problems and criticism Dana White and the UFC have had over the last couple of months, a heavily stacked fight card is needed to boost up fan morale and with UFC 152, White hopes to do just that. The main event between Jon Jones and Vitor Belfort should be a highly entertaining battle of skill, but don’t let the main event’s hype distract you from an interesting match in the preliminaries on FX between Marcus Brimage and Jimy Hettes.
Marcus “The Bamma Beast” Brimage (5-1) is an explosive addition to the featherweight division. With hammers for hands and the speed and technique to deliver them, the Colorado native is always exciting to watch. Brimage won an impressive underdog victory against Maximo Blanco via split decision at UFC 145 and hopes to put another win in his record book.
Jimy “The Kid” Hettes (10-0) remained perfect in his mixed martial arts career with a win in his last bout against the very skilled Nam Phan via unanimous decision at UFC 141. Hettes is clearly the favored between the two, and for good reason. With 9 of his 10 wins coming via submission, Hettes has some of the most dangerous ground skills among the UFC up-and-comers.
Both fighters are skilled in their disciplines, but uncomfortable outside of their individual element. Expect Brimage to try to stay on his feet and use his superior striking in an attempt to overwhelm Hettes. Hettes will certainly want to take this fight to the ground; as Brimage has his only loss coming by way of submission.
Marcus Brimage vs. Jimy Hettes promises to bring some first-class action to the UFC 152 preliminaries. The finesse of Brimage and his striking against the fluidity of Hettes’ ground game will bring the classic clash of striker vs. grappler. No matter who wins at UFC 152, these two fighters will be the future stars within the featherweight division.
