Surprise, It was Thiago Tavares who Failed his UFC on FX 7 post-fight drug test, not Vitor Belfort. Following last months event held in São Paulo, Brazil, rumors began to swirl of a fighter failing his post fight drug test. Right away the fingers began pointing at Vitor Belfort, who headlined the event but looked in too good of shape.
Despite the newly formed Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission, the UFC acted as commission for the event and hired an independent facility to handle its Drug testing. It wasn’t until this week that the UFC would finally revealed the guilty party and it wasn’t who was expected.
Failing the test was Thiago Tavares, who lost in the first-round to undefeated Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov. Tavares tested positive for the anabolic steroid drostanolone and was suspended nine months. After the suspensionTavares must submit a clean sample before returning to the octagon. This was the first failed drug test from Brazilian who had a two-fight winning streak snapped with the loss.
The remaining 21 fighter were also tested after the event passed. Though The suspected Belfort tested clean, it was revealed that he was given a TRT exemption for the event.
