Another Thursday can only mean another round of tournament quarterfinal action at Bellator 89. Along with the four tournament bouts, tonight’s Bellator 89 was headlined by a bantamweight title fight between Eduardo Dantas and Marcos Galvao.
Dantas was making his first title defense and was taking on friend and teammate Marcos Galvao. Dantas defeated Zach Makovsky to win the title but most recently lost to Tyson Nam that tarnished the champs luster. Dantos re-kindled that shine tonight with an impressive display of crisp, quick striking to retain his title with a second round knockout of Galvao.
In middleweight tournament action, three of the four bouts appeared on the Bellator 89 main card with the fourth being part on the preliminary card. The highlight of the tournament was the bout between Dan Cramer and Brian Rogers that easily deserved fight of the night, if Bellator did that sort of thing. Cramer would get the decision from the judges and moves on to the next round where he will face Brett Cooper.
Opening the Bellator 89 main card was Former tournament finalist Andreas Spang taking on the heavy hitting Doug Marshall. Spang stood toe to toe with the dangerous Marshall and despite having the cleaning technique, the power of Marshall would prevail. Marshall knocked out Spang three minutes into the fight and will now take on the Russian Sultan Aliev in the semifinals.
