Season 10 for Bellator is Starting to take Shape [Updated]

Bellator-Season 10It seems like forever since the last Bellator event took place but season 10 for the promotion is quickly approaching. It was back in November that Bellator 109 closed out a very solid 9th season and it won’t be for another month or so before season 10 gets underway.

Promotion for the upcoming season has begun and the main events for four of the first five events have already been set. Fresh new tournaments are set to begin and many titles will be on the line. Here is a preview for the upcoming season.

Bellator 110 (February 28th) from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut

The announcement for this card took a bit longer than the rest but the opening event of season 10 for Bellator will feature the start of two new tournaments. Getting top billing for obvious reasons is the light heavyweight tournament which will see Quinton “Rampage” Jackson make is second Bellator appearance facing the former 205 lbs. champion Christian M’Pumbu. The other bracket will see King Mo Lawal trying to get back in the win column against the Russian Mikhail Zayats. The tournament appears to only be those four men, potentially setting up a final between Rampage and King Mo. The card will also have the opening round of the featherweight tournament, though Bellator has yet to announce the matchups.

Oddly enough this event has not been announced as of yet, even though the next four events have already been announced and the event posters released.

Bellator 111 (March, 7th) from WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma

Headlining the card will a 135 lbs. title fight between the champion Eduardo Dantas and the 2013 summer series tournament winner Rafael Silva. Also on the card will be the opening round of the Heavyweight Tournament featuring, Ryan Martinez vs. Laval Johnson and Peter Graham vs. Mighty Mo on one side of the bracket, while the other side will see the former champion Alexander Volkov vs. Mark Holata and Blagoi Ivanov vs. Rich Hale.

Bellator 112 (March 14th) from the Horseshoe Hammond Casino in Hammond, Indiana

Bellator will deviate from the normal as the grant former featherweight champion Pat Curran an immediate rematch against Daniel Straus, who captured the title via unanimous decision last season. It will only be the second time that Bellator has done this though unlike the first they are receiving some negativity regarding it. The start of a welterweight tournament will also be on the card and currently has War Machine vs. Nah-Shon Burrell and the Fight Master season one Winner Joe Riggs vs. Sam Oropeza. The remaining two tournament bouts have yet to be announced.

Bellator 113 (March 21st) from the Kansas Star Arena in Mulvane, Kansas

Champion versus Champion will anchor this card as light heavyweight champion Attila Vegh takes on the interim champion Emanuel Newton. This bout will be a rematch of the 2012 summer series semifinal round in which Villa defeated Newton be controversial split decision. Viegh went on to win the tournament and defeat Christian M’Pumbu at Bellator 91 to become the champ. A new lightweight contender will emerge from a new tournament getting started on this card that include some interesting matchups. On one side of the bracket you have David Rickels vs. Patricky Freire and Terry Etim vs. Derek Anderson, while the other has Macin Held vs. Rodrigo Cavalheiro and Brandon Girtz vs. Derek Campos.

Bellator 114 (March 28th) from Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah

Yet another title fight will headline the months finale Bellator event as middleweight champion Alexander Shelmenko will look to make his third successful title defense when he takes on Brennan Ward. Shelmenko is currently the longest tenured champion and is riding a 12 fight winning streak. The card will also feature a featherweight bout between fan favorite and Utah native Rad Martinez against Edson Berto.

Bellator 115 (April 5th) from the Reno Event Center in Reno, Nevada

The sixth event of Bellator’s season 10 will take place in Reno, Nevada and feature the heavyweight champion Vitay Minakov making the first defense of his title against tournament winner and former UFC fighter Cheick Kongo.

With well over a month away from the start of Season 10, Bellator has made it clear that this season will be their very best.
