Fighters have thin skin these days. Say someone hits like a girl, or that they make funny noises during a match, or that they're legally cheating with TRT, and all of a sudden everyone has hurt feelings. Back in the day, this was just your standard banter before the fight, and for good reason: Everyone was scared shitless. If you're a judoka walking into a rickety cage against some monster of unknown origins and skills, you're damn right you're going to call him a name or three to make yourself feel better.

It was a well-hyped fight, but one that played out perhaps even more one-sided than imagined. The always vocal Chael Sonnen had talked his way into a title shot at 205 lbs, yet champion Jon "Bones" Jones wasn't impressed by the verbal acrobatics, and certainly wasn't impressed by Sonnen's skills. Landing shots in the clinch and easily winning the wrestling battle, Jones broke a toe, but absolutely dispatched his opponent with little danger and maximum damage.

It might be nothing but the coincidence UFC president Dana White says it is but tomorrows UFC on FOX 7 main card should be dubbed “UFC vs Strikeforce”. Each of the four main card bouts that will air live on FOX features a UFC veteran against a former Strikeforce fighter.

Jorge Masvidal enter his UFC debut with lots to prove

It’s been nine month’s since Jorge Masvidal last fought. The well-traveled Mixed Martial Artist defeated Justin Wilcox back in July of 2012 and was scheduled to fight at the final Strikeforce card in December before withdrawing from the bout due to injury. This Saturday Masvidal returns to action in the biggest fight of his career as he’ll be making his UFC debut on the UFC on FOX 7 preliminary card.

With Josh Samman getting a win over Tor, it essentially gave Team Jones the last two TUF 17 match-up selections for the opening round. They decided that Clint Hester and Jimmy Quinlan would fight first, which left Dylan and myself for the last preliminary fight. After the fight, Team Jones sat in the locker room talking a little bit about Bubba having the wildcard for sure and that they felt it would be a “Jones Finale.”

Latest MMA Valor Fighter Rankings for March 2013

This past month saw some exciting MMA action and some not so well, but as a whole the month of February produced several meaningful bouts to MMA Rankings. Champions Renan Barao and Eduardo Dantas made successful title defenses this month and Alexander Shlemenko was crowned the new Bellator middleweight champion.
