Let’s be honest, Tuesdays are useless. They’re just a day removed from Monday, but too far from the end of the week to get you excited about anything. What makes them a hell of a lot better though is some prime UFC on Fuel TV bouts. Our mid-week MMA fix will feature a possible number one contender bout, as Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier takes on fan-favorite “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung.
As the current Zuffa roster changes with additions and deletions of fighters, the one time big names (Arlovski, Pulver, Henderson) have gone on to fight for smaller promotions and find success there. Right now there are men under contract who have underperformed or just cannot hang with the world-class level most of the fighters in the UFC bring into the octagon. Instead of subjecting those to a smaller pay for lesser known venues, here are a few examples of fighters that could go to Strikeforce and find success while helping re-build the promotion as its own force.
The fighters of Sundays exciting UFC on Versus 5 events learned of their medical fate today from the Wisconsin’s Department of Safety and Professional Services. 13 of the 24 fighters on the card appeared on the medical report, receiving either a 30-day medical rest period or an indefinite suspension.
When I think of the most entertaining cards top to bottom so far this year UFC Live 4: Kongo vs. Barry and now UFC Live 5: Hardy vs. Lytle come to mind. These Versus (NBC Sports Network)/ Facebook cards are on a hot streak reminiscent of those good old WEC cards we became accustomed to on those Thursday nights. Last night we saw some old WEC mainstays like Ben Henderson, Joseph Benavidez and Donald Cerrone all collect victories in entertaining fashion.
What a night of fights tonight at UFC on Versus 5: Hardy vs. Lytle! Live inside the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin the 24 men that competed tonight put on a great show for the MMA fans. From top to bottom the card had a little bit of everything, from solid debuts to veterans going out on top.
The UFC pushed their event back to Sunday, so we (not to be outdun) pushed our podcast back to Saturday. Opening Sunday’s UFC Live: Hardy vs. Lytle main card on versus will be a welterweight scrap between the Ultimate Fighter season 7 winner, Amir Sadollah against Duane “bang” Ludwig. Both fighters are coming off recent wins in the Octagon and look to continue their winning ways in a stacked 170 pound division.
The Ultimate Fighting Champion comes to the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for a rare Sunday MMA card this weekend. The free event will open up with the eight fight preliminary card on Facebook and finish with the four bout main card on the Versus Network starting a 6pm PT / 9pm ET.
