As Bellator’s sixth season is coming to an end, Bellator 69 featured the tournament final in the middleweight division between Maiquel Falcao and Andreas Spang. The winner would be crowned the season six tournament champion, given an over-sized check for $100,000 and a spot against Alexander Shlemenko for the vacant middleweight title.
Tonight’s Bellator 69 fight card showcased two of the best female fighters in the world, and it was an incredibly fun and close fight for fans worldwide to enjoy. Aguilar improved her MMA record to 14-4 and win streak to five, with her last loss a heavily disputed decision loss for Zoila Grugel. Fuji on the other hand dropped her second close decision loss in 27 fights taking her off the kingpin status of the straw weight division.
This weekend brings yet another solid two days of Mixed Martial Arts action with Bellator 69 Friday and Strikeforce on Saturday. The two cards each bring to the table some very important bouts, including one title fight, two tournament finals and a tournament semifinal. For members of the Spang family, two bouts will in particular will hold more importance than the others, as the Spang brothers Andreas and Chris fight on separate cards this weekend.
When we think of American Women’s Mixed Martial Arts, usually it’s because Strikeforce has a big clash set up. Be it Carano/Cyborg or Rousey/Tate, Strikeforce has been the home of WMMA of late. However, Bellator has a fight this Friday night that is very intriguing to the Women’s MMA scene. Jessica Aguilar faces off with Japanese legend, Megumi Fujii.
With Bellator’s Season Six winding down, we find ourselves with tournament finals, semi-finals, and a slew of tournament eliminators at Fridays Bellator 69. Due to a previously scheduled Arena Football game at the HP Pavilion, today’s UFC on FOX 7 weigh-ins were held less than a mile away at the California Theater. The small theater was completely filled with cheering fans and all the fighters they came to see made weight.
