Less than five months since making their triumphant return to Brazil the UFC comes to the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro for UFC 142: Aldo vs. Mendes. Like before the card is stacked with local fighters and headlined by a Brazilian champion defending his title. Jose Aldo makes his third title defense of his UFC featherweight title against the undefeated Chad Mendes.

To start off the year right and one up ourselves we offer up first rankings of the year along with the addition of the flyweights (125 lbs.) to the ranks. With the UFC introducing the division early this year and crowning their first ever flyweight champion before the year is out it was only fitting.

After the month of July offered little movement in the rankings, August saw several fighters in the top five put their record on the line. The action resulted in four fighters moving down in the ranking, two of them fell completely out of the top five. Conversely, two fighters moved up in the ranks while two fighters “knocking on the door” got called up to the top five.

The UFC 133 Hotseat

UFC 133 takes place tomorrow night live from Philadelphia, PA and for many, it’s a chance to get into title contention or move further up the ladder to bigger fights, bigger paydays and more opportunity.  However for a few fighters, this is a do or die situation.  A win will allow them a fresh breath in the UFC while a loss will find them likely unemployed and looking for work on the smaller shows.
