It seems to be an epidemic in Mixed Martial Arts right now, fighters getting injured and withdrawing from their scheduled fights. While some of the injuries are from fluke circumstances, the majority of them are coming from training. The phenomenon has been dubbed the “injury bug” and MMA has yet to figure out a vaccine or cure for it.
A new MMA reality series produced by James Jefferson and directed by Hollywood veteran Ben Perry called “Warrior Island” is looking to make waves by putting 16 elite fighters on an island in the Pacific Ocean. The reality series, which begins filming on location Feb. 1 of 2013, is being produced by Global Proving Ground who have partnered with former Cage Rage Presenter and current UCMMA Promoter Dave O’Donnell. Each week, the fighters will battle one another to stay on the island and compete for international stardom, as well as a half a million dollar grand prize.
UCMMA returns for its next event at London’s Troxy Arena this weekend as nations collide with the UK taking on the USA as “Big” Ben Smith is challenged by New Yorker, Neil “King Kong” Bittong for one step closer to the Light-Heavyweight title. Fight fans can also expect more fireworks when Middleweight K1 champion Louis “KO” King once again looks to take another title as he takes on kickboxer AJ Woodhall for the vacant Light Heavyweight K1 title.

Due to a previously scheduled Arena Football game at the HP Pavilion, today’s UFC on FOX 7 weigh-ins were held less than a mile away at the California Theater. The small theater was completely filled with cheering fans and all the fighters they came to see made weight.
