Last night the fighters for tonight’s Bellator 100 stepped onto the scales with all 24 fighters making weight. The historic 100th event for Bellator takes places tonight from the Grand Canyon University Arena in Phoenix, Arizona and features an all welterweight main card on Spike TV.
A jam-packed weekend of MMA fights is on deck once again, as the highly anticipated World Series of Fighting debuts. A new league attempting to roll with the big boys, WSOF brings a card packed with a multitude of recognizable faces and some slick match-making for their first show. It seems to be an epidemic in Mixed Martial Arts right now, fighters getting injured and withdrawing from their scheduled fights. While some of the injuries are from fluke circumstances, the majority of them are coming from training. The phenomenon has been dubbed the “injury bug” and MMA has yet to figure out a vaccine or cure for it.
Several fighters went missing on the UFC website list of roster yesterday, spurning speculation of their release. Typically when a fighter gets removed from the website it a precursor to them officially being released from the UFC.
Following this weekend’s UFC 145: Jones vs. Evans event, the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission passed out suspensions to 20 of the 24 fighters. Three fighters were issued lengthy suspensions, while one was given an indefinite suspension.
Welcome to the UFC Chad Griggs! Griggs made his UFC debut tonight and it took Travis Browne two huge knees and an Arm Triangle to end it just 2:30 seconds into the opening frame. Travis Browne threw a picture perfect flying knee and followed it up with another knee that rocked Griggs. Moments later he took Griggs down and mounted him. Griggs showed some inexperience at that point almost pushing Browne into position for the Arm Triangle and then tapping moments later.
UFC 145 is the first UFC Pay-Per-View in nearly two months and takes place from the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Headlining the night is the highly anticipated light heavyweight title fight between former team mates Jon Jones and Rashad Evans. There is no love lost between these two and the war of words is nearly over.
