Duane Ludwig is the best thing to happen to Team Alpha Male since Urijah Faber! The Muay Thai turn mixed martial artist is transitioning from fighter to coach as the head striking coach from the Sacramento, CA based Team Alpha Male. Ludwig has only been at the helm for less than a year, but Team alpha Male hasn’t looked better.
The third UFC event in a week (UFC Fight Night 28) will take us down to Brazil, for a card that has suffered greatly from injuries to be something only a native would recognize. The main event is still intact however, as Glover Teixeira looks to continue his march to a title shot, taking on Ultimate Fighter winner Ryan Bader. We also have a compelling co-main in the middleweight division, as Yushin Okami faces former Strikeforce champ Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in a division shaping match-up.
After every event MMA Fans and even some Media will make outlandish claims of a certain fight or the entire event being the “best/worst of the year/all-time” and last night’s UFC on FOX 7 was no different. As the card headed into the co-main and main event UFC on FOX 7 was being called the best card of the year all over the internet. Hard to blame them though, 8 of the first 10 fights ended within the first two rounds via knockout and you know how much fans love the knockout.
The UFC returns to San Jose, California today with a stacked UFC on FOX 7 fight card headlined by lightweight champion Benson Henderson defending his belt against Gilbert Melendez. The former Strikeforce lightweight champion, along with several other former Strikeforce fighters give this card a fun feel to it.
Due to a previously scheduled Arena Football game at the HP Pavilion, today’s UFC on FOX 7 weigh-ins were held less than a mile away at the California Theater. The small theater was completely filled with cheering fans and all the fighters they came to see made weight.
The UFC makes its return to San Jose, California this weekend with the UFC on FOX 7, sporting a main card with a UFC vs. Strikeforce feel to it. The four UFC on FOX 7 bout on the main card feature one UFC veteran against a former Strikeforce fighter, which seems only fitting since they are in the old stomping grounds of the once #2 Mixed Martial Arts promotion in the United States.
We’re in the middle of a long schedule of UFC action, and the king of FOX fights, Benson Henderson, is once again on deck in Saturday’s UFC on Fox 7 main event. Having handily defeated Nate Diaz in his last outing, he’ll look to keep his belt away from the next contender from the Scrap Pack, as Gilbert Melendez makes his UFC debut. We also have another Lightweight fight for the ages, as Josh Thomson returns to the UFC to take on Nate Diaz.
The first UFC title bout in many years to occur on English shores, Renan Barao and Michael McDonald put everything out there for four hard rounds. When the dust settled, it was Barao who has puzzled out his young foe and found a submission towards the end of the fourth round, having defended his interim title and golden ticket to face Dominick Cruz.
