A new year is upon us and the MMA community has a tough task at hand to best the year 2011 was. To start off the year right and one up ourselves we offer up first rankings of the year along with the addition of the flyweights (125 lbs.) to the ranks. With the UFC introducing the division early this year and crowning their first ever flyweight champion before the year is out it was only fitting.

Finally the flyweight division is coming to the biggest Mixed Martial Arts Promotion in 2012. At Saturdays UFC 140, UFC President Dana White announced the 125 pound division would debut inside the Octagon in March of 2012.

UFC Announces First Quarter Twitter Bonuses

The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced today the first quarter winners of the Twitter bonuses for the months of June, July and August. The UFC / ZUFFA introduced the Twitter Bonus program during their Fighter Summit in May.

After the month of July offered little movement in the rankings, August saw several fighters in the top five put their record on the line. The action resulted in four fighters moving down in the ranking, two of them fell completely out of the top five. Conversely, two fighters moved up in the ranks while two fighters “knocking on the door” got called up to the top five.

The fighters of Sundays exciting UFC on Versus 5 events learned of their medical fate today from the Wisconsin’s Department of Safety and Professional Services. 13 of the 24 fighters on the card appeared on the medical report, receiving either a 30-day medical rest period or an indefinite suspension.

Whats Next for the Cast of UFC Live 5: Hardy vs. Lytle?

When I think of the most entertaining cards top to bottom so far this year UFC Live 4: Kongo vs. Barry and now UFC Live 5: Hardy vs. Lytle come to mind. These Versus (NBC Sports Network)/ Facebook cards are on a hot streak reminiscent of those good old WEC cards we became accustomed to on those Thursday nights. Last night we saw some old WEC mainstays like Ben Henderson, Joseph Benavidez and Donald Cerrone all collect victories in entertaining fashion.
