The semifinals are in the books and the Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix now has the two men that will battle in the finals early next year. The main card one-upped the undercard with four of the five bouts ending with a finish, one more than the undercard. Along with the two grand prix bouts, there was also a middleweight title fight that would end up being the only fight on the card to go the distance.

This Saturday, September 10, the semifinal round of the heavyweight grand prix goes down as Strikeforce World Grand Prix: Barnett vs. Kharitonov comes to you live from the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio. In addition to the two big Heavyweight match ups, a fight for the Middleweight Championship is set to take place, as well as a Light Heavyweight bout that could determine who is next in line to challenge for the championship. With the unexpected removal of Alistair Overeem, Daniel Cormier was chosen to replace him and will face his toughest completion yet. Let’s take a look at the five Main Card fights to be shown on Showtime and break them down.

UFC: Just how close to a title shot is Michael Bisping?

UFC 120 is this Saturday from London, England and headlining the card is England’s own, Michael Bisping, as he takes on Japanese Judoka, Yoshihiro Akyama. In the media events leading up to the card, Bisping stated that he feels he is just one big fight away from earning a title shot. Since that’s most likely not true, let’s take a look at his recent fights a maybe figure out just where he really is at in the middleweight division.

Vitor Belfort out of UFC 122, but not injured!

The UFC middleweight division continues to be in the news as yesterday reports surfaced that Vitor Belfort (19-8) was out of his scheduled main event fight with Yushin Okami at UFC 122. The fight was supposed to determine the number one contender in the middleweight division. Nate Marquardt, who just fought at UFN 22 was quickly announced as the replacement against Okami in the UFC 122 main event.

Tim Kennedy: A true American Hero

Tim Kennedy is no stranger to stiff competition and adversity.  As a youth growing up in San Luis Obispo, California, Kennedy participated in boxing, wrestling and Japanese Jiu Jitsu.  Kennedy graduated high school in 1998 and went on to attend Columbia College of Missouri.  While attending college, Kennedy began to compete in sanctioned mixed martial arts fights.  After graduating college with a BA in Criminal justice in 2002, Kennedy decided to join the United States Army and in 2004 he enlisted in the elite Special Forces. 

Chael Sonnen next for Silva; on a short leash

Following Saturdays performance by Anderson Silva, Dana White went out of his way to bash Silva for his antics. Saying things like Silva was disrespectful and maybe he should be the first champ to fight on an undercard. All the while Silva was none apologetic even saying Demian Maia was disrespectful towards him.
