UFC Veteran Nate Quarry Officially Retires from MMA

NateQuarry

It’s been nearly two years since MMA fans last saw veteran MMA competitor and former TUF cast member Nate ‘Rock’ Quarry compete inside the octagon, and unfortunately we won’t be seeing him fight again. On Thursday night’s episode of Spike TV’s new program MMA Uncensored Quarry officially announced his retirement from MMA competition.

Contenders Will Bring Fireworks

The UFC paired with match maker Jay Silva have really been working to please the fans and give a variety of fights in every weight class and there have been a few surprises lately. UFC 113 proved that underdogs can still pull off impressive victories (even when they are -200 to -600 in the odds) Three matchups excite me the most and are both vivid examples of why I love a good striking match in MMA every once and awhile.

WASHINGTON COMBAT PRESENTS BATTLE OF THE LEGENDS

WASHINGTON, DC – Calling all mixed martial arts (MMA) fans!  You won’t want to miss the first major MMA event in the District of Columbia.  Washington Combat Presents Battle of the Legends May 15 at 7:00pm at the DC Armory.  Tickets are on-sale now!

The main event features MMA legends Pedro Rizzo and Gary Goodridge.  “The Rock” Rizzo, a four-time Brazilian Muay Thai Champion, holds notable wins over Josh Barnett, Andrei Arlovski, Mark Coleman, Dan Severn and Ricco Rodriguez. Trained by Vale Tudo legend Marco Ruas, Rizzo’s MMA record is 32-9-0.  Nicknamed “Big Daddy”, Goodridge is well-known for his showmanship and hard-hitting fighting style.  Born in Ontario, Canada Goodridge began his MMA journey defeating Paul Herrera in Ultimate Fighting Championship 8.  Former PRIDE contender Goodridge had key victories over Don Frye, Dan Bobish, Valentijn Overeem, and a KO of Oleg Taktarov.  Big Daddy’s record is 23-20-1.

Nate Rock Quarry – True Warrior

I was more than bummed with the outcome of the Quarry vs. Rivera fight, having faith that Nate would pull of a warrior finish but he was beat but I still give him kudos for the amount of absolute heart he has shown in his fights. I know he will be back better than ever and he motivates me to get more into MMA / be tough about any and all situations. He may not be the greatest MMA fighter ever but he has impressive heart and is always fighting as hard as he can for the win. We don’t even see that from every UFC champion anymore. I know there will always be Nate haters ( mostly the fight mafia) but you have to take a step back and realize this guy fights even with a broken face, and never takes the easy way out or quits. I think the UFC needs more no excuse fighters, and guys like him are changing the sport for the better and keeping things interesting. I can’t wait for Nate’s return to the Octagon, I can guarantee it will be exciting and I wouldn’t miss it for the world.

Ultimate Fight Night 21 Predictions

The great MMA Madness just keeps coming as 4 days removed from UFC 111 we get Ultimate Fight Night 21 plus the start of season 11 of the Ultimate Fighter. Still having a hangover from my 9-1 performance on my UFC 111 predictions these picks seem so hard to choose. I’m looking forward to the final two fights on this card for totally different reasons. The Roy Nelson vs. Stefan Struve fight interests my mainly for the oddity that is the tallest fighter (Struve) vs. the widest (Nelson) an how each handle it. The main event between Kenny Florian and Takanori Gomi should be of interest to any MMA fan out there. The MMA legend Gomi will be making his long awaited UFC debut and will try to take down the always dangerous Florian. Coming off his impressive win over Clay Guida Florian will be looking to get back in the title hunt.

Silva vs. Maia lost its luster

Just 6 months ago before Demian Maia took on Nate Marquardt at UFC 102 I thought to myself, If Maia beats Marquardt I would love to see him face Anderson Silva. Maia had entered the UFC 6-0 and rolled through Ryan Jensen, Ed Herman, Jason Macdonald, Nate Quarry & Chael Sonnen on route to Marquardt. At 11-0 and having submitted all his opponents in the UFC, Maia to me looked like the one that could contend with Silva.
