With my temper still up after spending $55 on UFC 149, it’s at least nice to see the free UFC on FOX 4 card on deck. Light Heavies are on deck here, as former champions Lyoto Machida and Mauricio Rua take on some talented mid-card competitors in Ryan Bader and Brandon Vera respectively. This weekend was dominated by the UFC 149 fight card in Calgary and whether you liked it or not the event generated a lot of buzz in the MMA world. But that’s not the only thing going on in MMA this week. Friday night saw more Bellator summer series action with Bellator 72 and next weekend will be the Invicta FC 2 fight card.
On August 4th the UFC on FOX will bring the promotion back to the Staples Center in Los Angeles for the first time in over two years with a light heavyweight main event between former champion Shogun Rua and Brandon Vera. Rua was also the headliner the last time the UFC was at the Staples Center back at UFC 104 on October 24th, 2009. Though he lost a close and controversial decision to Lyoto Machida, he would later defeat Machida to capture UFC gold.

All the talk of late has been about the stacked UFC 148 fight card happening on July 7th, but the UFC has recently been adding some solid fights to the UFC on FOX 4 card. On the heels of the rumored Brian Stann vs. Hector Lombard bout landing on UFC on FOX 4, the promotion has added two more notable fights.
When the UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones defeated Rashad Evans by unanimous decision at last weekend’s UFC 145, the first things that came to mind was “WOW, he made it look easy.” Not too long after that though my mind reset and the second thing that came to mind was “who’s next?” for Jon Jones.
Ultimate Fighter winner Ryan Bader said that Quinton “Rampage” Jackson would not pull off one of his famous slams against him at UFC 144. He also stated that he’d defeat Jackson in front of the Japanese fans that adore the former PRIDE star. Well Bader was only half right on his predictions, lucky for him though he got the most important one right.
The time has finally arrived, UFC 144: Japan marks the return of the UFC to the land of the rising sun. Bringing with them is a five bout preliminary card and a stacked seven deep main card airing on pay per view. The night will be headlined by a lightweight title fight between the champ Frankie Edgar against the former WEC champ, Benson Henderson.

Due to a previously scheduled Arena Football game at the HP Pavilion, today’s UFC on FOX 7 weigh-ins were held less than a mile away at the California Theater. The small theater was completely filled with cheering fans and all the fighters they came to see made weight.
