Tonight was the big night for Bellator MMA and Spike as Bellator 85 opened the promotions eighth season in their new home. The event was stacked with two title fights as well as three of the four opening round bouts in the light heavyweight tournament. Bellator is set to return with it’s 8th season as they move into the new home on Spike TV on a new night. After their long ans at time rough stint with the UFC, Spike has moved on and will now being airing the weekly tournament. This Thursday, yes I said Thursday, Bellator will have two title fights plus the beginning of the light heavyweight tournament at Bellator 85.
Quick finishes and split decisions are what the fans in Atlantic City, New Jersey saw at Bellator 68. Not to mention the odd scoring and curious doctor stoppage, before finishing off the night’s action with two season six tournament bouts.
It’s no doubt that Fedor Emelianenko at 31-4 was one of the best heavyweight fighters ever to grace combat sports. Now that he has turned out three depressing loses in a row, many fans have turned their backs on him and demanded him to hang them up. The inaugural Bellator Summer Series comes to a conclusion this Saturday from the familiar confines of the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The three event series featured a featherweight tournament that is set to conclude, along with a handful of special attraction bouts. Bellator 48 will send the Summer Series out in style with the featherweight tournament final and three special attraction bouts.
Tonight during the Bellator 46 broadcast on MTV2, Bellator Founder and CEO, Bjorn Rebney announced that former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez will face “the kimbo killer” Seth Petruzelli at Bellater 48. Both fighters will be making their Bellator debut on August 20th at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
