Strikeforce: Houston the aftermath

As Strikeforce: Houston came to a close Saturday night; fans were left to pick their jaws up from off the ground following two upsets and poor refereeing again.  Not to mention a very close championship fight that many thought went the wrong way on the judge’s card.

KJ Noons wins at Strikeforce: Houston so whats next?

Tonight was an eventful night of fights live at The Toyota Center in Houston Texas, and on Showtime nation wide. When KJ Noons entered the Arena he looked very calm and focused. Knowing he returned to MMA squeaking out a split decision win over a debuting Strikeforce fighter, he was in need of a complete domination. Strikeforce matchmaking lined him up with a tough Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt who loves the stand up, and fights to please the crowd.

Strikeforce Houston was one of the better cards that Strikeforce has offered the fans.  The main event and co-main event were both title fights that on paper were sure to be very exciting fights.  The main event was for the Light Heavyweight Championship with Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal defending his championship against challenger and number one contender Rafael Cavalcante.

Undefeated pro wrestler turned MMA fighter Bobby Lashley (5-0) came into the fight tonight confident, as the favorite.  Fighting against a game opponent in Chad Griggs (8-1), Lashley wanted to make a huge statement in his second Strikeforce appearance.

The future of King Mo a Mystery

Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal is set to defend his Strikeforce Light-Heavyweight Title against Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante this Saturday, August 21st in Houston. Lawal sports a 7-0 record with 5 KOs including his unanimous decision victory over the former champion, Gegard Mousasi. A former NCAA National Champion wrestler at Oklahoma State and later was a top-raked international freestyle wrestler, but failed to qualify for the World Championships in 2006 and the Olympics in 2008. 

Tim Kennedy: A true American Hero

Tim Kennedy is no stranger to stiff competition and adversity.  As a youth growing up in San Luis Obispo, California, Kennedy participated in boxing, wrestling and Japanese Jiu Jitsu.  Kennedy graduated high school in 1998 and went on to attend Columbia College of Missouri.  While attending college, Kennedy began to compete in sanctioned mixed martial arts fights.  After graduating college with a BA in Criminal justice in 2002, Kennedy decided to join the United States Army and in 2004 he enlisted in the elite Special Forces.
