UFC Hot Seat
Posted by Joshua WoodSep 4
The UFC is always looking to add new talent and or top names to the roster. This action tends to inflate the roster from time to time. When this happens the UFC will release fighters that might be underachieving. With the addition of several Affliction fighters’s the roster has gotten rather large. The UFC already started to purge the roster over the past month but I think they need to cut a few more. Here is my list of fighter’s I believe are on the hot seat.
LW Mac Danzig (18-7-1)
After winning season 6 of the Ultimate Fighter, Danzig followed that up with another victory. The level of competition got harder after that and he has since lost 3 in a row. As an Ultimate Fighter winner the UFC will give him a longer rope then normal. He could be the first Ultimate Fighter winner to be released.
MW Ed Herman (15-8)
In Herman’s last fight he was being dominated by Aaron Simpson before the fight was stopped due to a nasty knee injury suffered by Herman. That was his 3rd lose in the last 4 fights making him 4-5 overall in the UFC. He’ll be out for a while with that knee injury which might save him for now.
MW Chris Leben (18-7)
After appearing on season 1 of the Ultimate Fighter Leben tore through his next 5 opponents. He then faced UFC newcomer Anderson Silva and got destroyed in 49 seconds. He’s fought 7 more times going 3-4 but he doesn’t seem to want to evolve. He looks to knock you out and if that doesn’t happen he loses. This coupled with the steroid suspension puts him in danger to be released.
LHW Stephan Bonnar (11-6)
Ultimate Fighter 1 runner up went 3-0 after his memorable war with Forrest Griffin. Since then he’s gone 2-4 and was suspended for steroids. Still a fan favorite but that ugly lost to Mark Coleman put him on a short leash, if not gone.
Another thing going for the above fighters is the threat of them going to Strikeforce. The UFC will have to decide if it’s better to keep them or release them knowing they might end up in Strikeforce.
HW Mostapha Al Turk (6-5)
Turk is 0-2 in the UFC but will get one more fight to show what he’s got. He’s only getting that shot because of the eye poke by Cro Cop in his last fight. A lose will for sure send him packing.
HW Justin McCully (9-5-2)
His 2-2 inside the cage and has looked boring in those fights. The heavyweight division is growing fast and with the 10th season of the Ultimate Fighter being heavyweights I think his time is up.
