The WEC 52 was the promotions last trip to Las Vegas before the merger with the UFC and the card will leave a lasting impression. The lighter fighters of the WEC once again put on a highly entertaining night of fights and show that they belong in the big show.
All but one of the five fights on the main card stayed out of the hands of the judges; in fact the judges were only a factor in four of the 11 overall fights.
The night was headlined by the bantamweight debut of long time featherweight champion Urijah Faber, who took on Takeya Mizugaki. Faber looked good at the new weight and also in the fight, stopping Mizugaki in the first round by rear naked choke right before the first round ended. Faber’s submission of Mizugaki, who had never been forced to tap, sends a message to the entire bantamweight division.
