This Saturday at Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Cyborg, Herschel Walker will look to repeat what he did in his MMA debut just one year ago. Standing in his way of going 2-0 will be Scott Carson, a virtually unknown fighter who will be making his Strikeforce debut against Walker. MMA fans don’t know much about Carson at this point in time, and come Saturday night, Walker will look to keep it that way.

At 48 years old, Walker is near the top of the list of oldest fighters in the sport. However, to the sports legend, age is just a number. When he made the move into MMA, many didn’t give Walker the credit he deserved because of his age. Once his debut was over though, he really gave fans something to talk about. Not only had Walker successfully defeated a man who was nearly half his age, but he made it look easy. Walker’s cardio was spectacular and he showed the world that he wasn’t to be taken lightly by anyone.

Leading into his first and only professional fight, Walker made it clear that he wasn’t in the sport for the fame and fortune, which showed when he donated his fight purse, in its entirety, to charity. Simply put, Walker is a one of a kind athlete. Most men his age are happy working their day-to-day jobs and plan on keeping it that way. Walker on the other hand wants to continue to find ways to challenge himself both mentally and physically, by any means necessary. Stepping into a cage to fight somebody isn’t a normal person’s idea of a good time, but Walker isn’t just another guy.

Come Sunday morning, Walker will wake up and be happy with himself, no matter the outcome of the fight. His character and attitude are something every athlete should strive for. Herschel Walker is one remarkable human being.
