Brad Tavares to Face Aaron Simpson at UFC 132
Once it was announced that Jason “Mayhem” Miller would coach opposite Michael Bisping on Season 14 of The Ultimate Fighter, Aaron Simpson was left without an opponent at UFC 132 in July. Now with just over a month until the fight, Brad Tavares has been chosen as the replacement against Simpson.
Tavares (7-0) has won two straight since his time on The Ultimate Fighter. In the finale, he defeated castmate Seth Baczynski by unanimous decision. Following the win, Tavares took on UFC vet Phil Baroni at UFC 125 and won via knockout. Tavares will look to keep his win streak alive when he takes on Simpson.
Simpson (8-2) will look to stay on track after a decision win over Mario Miranda at UFC Fight Night 24. Prior to the win, Simpson lost two straight to Chris Leben and Mark Munoz. Though Tavares isn’t the high-profile character Miller is, Simpson will still do his best to make it two in a row.
The middleweight bout is expected to be on the non-televised portion of the card.
UFC 132 takes place July 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and headlining the card will be UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz against Urijah Faber. Also on the card are heavy-hitters Chris Leben and Wanderlei Silva as well as light heavyweights Ryan Bader takes on Tito Ortiz.
