Joe Stevenson loses Fourth Straight against Javier Vazquez

Riding a disappointing three fight losing streak and making his featherweight debut, Joe Stevenson needed a win against Javier Vazquez. Walking into the Octagon and standing across from his opponent, Stevenson looked focused, angry and ready to get back into the win column.

Minutes into the fight though that look and intensity from Stevenson was gone and he was fighting for his UFC career. Vazquez took down Stevenson multiple times and looked to be up two rounds to none heading into the third and final round. Likely needing a finish, Stevenson came out tentative, going long stretches during the round without throwing a single punch. It wasn’t until the last half of the round he turned things up, but by then it was too little too late.

Both fighters raised their arm(s) following the bell to sound the end of the fight, but Stevenson only half heartedly raised one arm. After the judges’ scores were totaled Bruce Buffer announced Javier Vazquez as the winner by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28).

That makes four straight defeats, six of his last eight and seven of his last 10 for the Ultimate Fighter season 2 winner, who opened 5-1 in the UFC. At 8-8 in the UFC and currently holding a lengthy losing streak, Stevenson will most likely be cut in the coming days.

Having a high profile name should make finding a fight elsewhere pretty easy for Stevenson, but the question is, does he have anything left?
