UFC Suspends Chris Leben for a Year
Even without an athletic commission at UFC 138 in England, UFC Middleweight Chris Leben was caught red-handed. Handling the process themselves, the UFC announced today that Leben had tested positive for Oxycodone and Oxymorphone following his main event loss to Mark Munoz.
The testing was handled by former executive director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission Marc Ratner, who is now UFC Vice President of Regulatory Affairs. The positive test landed the fan favorite and Ultimate fighter season one fighter a one year suspension from the UFC.
This isn’t the first time Leben has landed himself in trouble during his UFC career. Leben spent 35 days in jail after allegedly violating his probation stemming from an earlier DUI. He was also suspended nine months and fined after testing positive for the steroid Stanozolol following his unanimous decision loss at UFC 89 to Michael Bisping.
Oxycodone and Oxymorphone are both powerful pain killers with the later (Oxymorphone) being similar to morphine, without the side effects.
UFC officials also announced that the remaining 19 fighters on the UFC 138 fight card all had their post-fight drug tests come back clean.
