TUF Live Episode 8 Recap: Spandex and Headbands

It’s all tied up at three after last week’s win by Vinc Pichel of Team Cruz, with only two fights remaining in the opening round of TUF Live. Up next is Sam Sicilia (Team Cruz) vs. Chris Saunders (Team Faber) as the two bitter rival coaches try to head into the quarterfinal round with the numbers advantage.

Strikeforce women’s 135 lbs. champion Ronda Rousey makes an appearance at the training session for Team Cruz, becoming the first female coach on the show. The Olympic Judoka was obviously there to work Judo with the fighters and put them thru throw after throw, before speeding off in a sports car with Dominick Cruz. She did make a surprise appearance at the fighters house as everyone got together to watch UFC 145 and but was that awkward.

Saran wrap and the faucet, shorts in the freezer and super glued Chap Stick, yes the pranks have arrived inside the TUF house.

Spandex and headbands

Team Faber decided to move the cardio equipment into the Team Cruz dressing room, drop down to just their spandex and get a good sweat on. After 45 minutes the fighters and Team Cruz arrived to witness five guys in only their spandex and headbands working out in a smelly musty room.

Fight Time

Lots of clinch work in the opening round with some slopping grappling mixed. Sam got tagged with a head kick that nearly ended the fight but the referee let it continue and he quickly recovered. Chris is mixing in the leg kicks to the outside lead leg along with the before mentioned high kick. Sam ended the round by pressing forward and swinging for the fences.

Sam comes out throwing everything with all his might, while Chris continues the leg kicks and mixing in the jab. Sam connecting better this round with those heavy hands but the wildness left him open for Chris to get his back and put him to the canvas. Still sloppy on the ground the fight quickly moves back to standing until Sam grab a single leg but gets muscled to bottom position. From there Chris tries to take his back but (see sloppy) losses position and Sam gets up. Chris stuns Sam, who then returns the favor and drops Chris only to end up on his back again with less than 90 seconds left. Chris held the position for nearly a minute before the two finished the fight on their fight.

Chris Saunders defeats Sam Sicilia by Split Decision

Team Faber is back up 4-3 and the final fight of the opening round will be Andy Ogle (Team Faber) vs. Mike Rio (Team Cruz)
