Coaches Challenge!

exploding target 190x200 TUF Live Episode 9 Recap

No this is not Top Shot

The UFC went all “Top Shot” with the coaches’ challenge this season and Dominick Cruz summed it up best with a “WOW”. With a staggering $20k on the line the coaches will have to have to run through four different endurance stations before firing a different weapon at each of the four shooting stations. The winning coach will also earn $1,500 for each fighter on their team.

Cruz jumps out to a lead through the first two stations but he had trouble in the third station which allowed Faber to pass him heading into the final stage. Cruz didn’t give up though and in the grenade launcher shooting stage he tied things up with one target left. The close challenge comes to an end with Faber hitting his last target and celebrating with his team. This concludes the TUF Live, Top Shot crossover and now back to your regularly scheduled show.

Back to reality, Team Cruz works with Mike Rio on what he does best, wrestling and controlling the fight. Team Faber works on Andy ogle getting back up from the takedown and quick footwork when striking.

Both fighters make-weight and it’s time for them to step into the Octagon!

In the first round Rio does get a takedown but Ogle fights to get back up without taking any damage. In the stand up though Ogle is landing the harder shots and making Rio chase him down and. The round ends with Rio shooting for a round stealing takedown that he gets right at the horn. Ogle gets cut in round two and gets taken down two minutes into the round. After taking some damage and giving up his back, Ogle finds a way to reverse and end up on top with two minutes left in the fight. From there he drops the ground and pound while controlling Rio, who gives up his back and allows Ogle to flatten him out. From there Ogle softens Rio up before sliding his arm under the chin of Rio and forcing him to tap.

Andy Ogle wins by 2nd rd Submission (Rear Naked Choke)

This puts Team Faber up 5-3 heading into the quarterfinal round and Dana White (via satellite) announces that James Vick vs. Joe Proctor and Justin Lawrence vs. Michael Chiesa will be the first two quarterfinal bouts, which will take place next week.
