UFC on FX 4 Fight Night Bonuses
The night was supposed to be concluded with a fight of the night bout between Gray Maynard and Clay Guida, but UFC on FX 4 ended with anything but that. Guida’s game plan appeared to involve moving even more than normal, including moving backwards more than forwards. The strategy would frustrate Maynard as the fight entered the extended rounds and he couldn’t contain his emotions.
Clearly not winning a Fight Night bonus, the UFC on FX 4 main event fight would leave the door open for the rest of the card to battle it out for the Fight Night Bonuses.
Among the 11 other bouts on the UFC on FX 4 fight card, there were there (3) fighters up for “Knockout of the Night”, (2) fighters for “Submission of the Night” and a few up for “Fight of the Night”. Up for grabs tonight was $50k to each fighter should they win one of the night’s bonuses.
Dan Miller made a successful welterweight debut
Submission of the Night: Dan Miller
Making his first appearance at welterweight, Dan Miller looked great out there out striking Ricardo Funch while avoiding the wild punches of the Brazilian. Miller had been fishing for a choke throughout the fight and finally got it in the final round to earn his sixth UFC win.
Knockout of the Night: Cub Swanson
Opening up the UFC on FX 4 main card, Cub Swanson used his quickness to punish Ross Pearson with striking. Even though Swanson ended up on his back a few times during the fight, he avoided heavy punishment and quickly return to his feet where he continued to punish his opponent en route to a TKO victory.
Fight of the Night: Sam Stout & Spencer Fisher
The night’s co-main event was the trilogy bout between Sam Stout and Spencer Fisher to break their tie. Just like their first two fights this one was toe to toe action for the full 15 minutes with each fighter scoring points. Stout though brought a new wrinkle to his game plan for this fight and his takedowns were the key to his unanimous decision victory. Stout gets back in the win column while Fisher drops his third in a row and fifth of his last six.
