Todd Duffee Successful in Octagon Return at UFC 155
At one point Todd Duffee was an undefeated heavyweight prospect with what looked to be an incredible future ahead of him. Back to back losses with a pink slip from the UFC mixed in between quickly reversed the powerful striker’s fortunes from prospect to bust.
Following a 16 month absence from fighting that included a switch to the highly ranked AKA gym in San Jose, California, Todd Duffee got back into the win column against MMA veteran Neil Grove. That 34 second knockout victory earned him a second chance inside the Octagon against Phil De Fries after Matt Mitrione was removed to fight in the TUF 16 main event.
Todd Duffee came out quick and rocked De Fries early on but the Englishman turned things around with a surprising takedown. Sacrificing his face at the expense of getting up, Duffee wall walked and returned to his feet. Back where he wanted things, Duffee opened up on De Fries landing a clean uppercut followed by an onslaught of right hands that ended the fight.
Against a tough opponent Todd Duffee weathered the storm and earned a Technical Knockout victory 2:04 into the first round.
Many figured Duffee would never get that second chance but the phone call came and the heavyweight answered it. Second chances come and go and it’s what you do with it that opportunity and Todd Duffee made the most of it at UFC 155.
