LFC 20 LongIt was a scorching night in Texas for LFC 20, but that didn’t stop the fighters from going all out in the cage, with action from bell to bell.  The card was stacked with recognizable talent from across the globe, as LFC tries to solidify their claim as the best organization on AXS TV. Let’s take a look at how the night played out.

125 lbs.: Matt Schnell vs. Elias Garcia: You couldn’t find a better bout to kick off the televised card, as Schnell and Garcia were both hell-bent to keep their undefeated records intact. Garcia got the fight going early with heavy punches on Schnell and some phenomenal mat control of his wiry foe.  While Schnell was squirrelly on the mat, Garcia stuck with him for the most part, making the first round a memorable one.  The second round was as lopsided as you can get, with Schnell hitting a takedown early and never letting off the pressure, working from a body triangle and dogging a RNC for the entire round, yet was never able to lock it fully into place.  With both men looking spent, Garcia found a second win and landed punches on Schnell while avoiding his shot, only going to the mat to work from top position.  As the round went on, Garcia pulled further and further ahead and while one judge proved to be utterly insane, Garcia walked away with a hard-fought win.

Elias Garcia wins via Majority Decision (30-27, 29-28, 28-28)

125 lbs.: Alp Ozkilic vs. Antonio Banuelos: Banuelos was adamant that this wouldn’t be a boring fight, and he was absolutely right…..in a way he didn’t intend.  Coming out like a wild animal, Banuelos pressured Ozkilic around the cage in the opening seconds before running flush into a fade away left hook, dropping like a rock.  But hey, it was exciting, right?

Alp Ozkilic wins via 1st Round KO (left hook)

145 lbs.: Adam Schindler vs. Chris Pecero: A razor-close fight on paper, Schindler and Pecero came out hard and both had moments early. Heavy leather flew from both sides and Schindler’s wrestling matched well with Pecero’s BJJ, but an unfortunate injury crushed Schindler’s chances at victory.  Reinjuring his right knee, Schindler fought bravely through the first round, and may have won it with his wrestling control, but blood was in the water and Pecero was a shark. Starting the round with leg kicks, Pecero forced Schindler to the cage and rapidly kneed his injured knee, forcing the referee to intervene for Schindler’s sake, as he was simply too tough to bow out of the fight.

Chris Pecero wins via 2nd Round TKO (knees)

135 lbs.: Damacio Page vs. Patrick Ybarra: A great example of an old lion facing a young lion, Damacio Page looked to rebound from losses in the UFC, facing LFC’s own Patrick Ybarra. Fights like these are always eye openers for a fighter’s career, and Ybarra learned a harsh lesson at the hands of Page.  While all fights before had come easy, Page wasn’t about to fall over and tap to Ybarra as he marched forward to grapple his foe. Uppercuts and hooks flew from Page, battering Ybarra and putting him on the canvas within seconds, although he survived and continued to work his game plan.  However, Ybarra’s telegraphed shot couldn’t get the underrated wrestler in Page on the mat and a massive right hand laid Ybarra out, face down on the mat.

Damacio Page wins via 1st Round KO (right hook)

155 lbs.: Carlo Prater vs. Carlos Diego Ferreira: A great main event pitting two no-gi grappling experts together, Prater looked to pick up the pieces of his failed UFC bid against a newcomer to the MMA world.  Surprising to everyone involved however, Ferreira came out with a new striking game he’d picked up in only three months and started landing relentlessly on Prater, whom seemed lost from the get-go.  Hitting takedowns and controlling the game on the mat in its entirety, Ferreira proved to be a multi-level terror, with Prater having no answers.  As the fight wore on, Prater seemed content to just survive the fight, and walked away with a crushing loss, while Ferreria added a feather to his cap.

Carlos Diego Ferreira wins via Unanimous Decison (30-27×3)
