UFC on FOX 9 Bold Picks
It’s been well over three years but the UFC / WEC is finally back in Sacramento this weekend for the UFC on FOX 9. Despite the numerous changes to the main card the UFC on FOX 9 fight card was deep enough to withstand the injury bug and still look pretty stacked.
It wouldn’t be a FOX card unless the flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson was headlining things so Mr. UFC on FOX himself will be facing Joseph Benavidez for the second time in their careers. The two first met last year at UFC 152 in the inaugural UFC flyweight championship with Johnson scratching out a split decision. Since then both fighters have continued flourish at the weight class and will once again meet.
The return to Sacramento, California just wouldn’t seem right if The California Kid Urijah Faber wasn’t on the card so thankfully the MMA vet is part of the UFC on FOX 9 co-main event. Faber will face a very tough test in the youngster Michael McDonald, who at 22 year of age is already making his 19 professional MMA appearance. 12 years the elder of his opponent, Faber could potentially earn another UFC title fight with a win on Saturday but better not be over looking McDonald.
Opening the UFC on FOX 9 main card will be a lightweight scrap between Mac Danzig and Joe Lauzon. If you were a betting man, say at BWIN, you’d want to put money one this fight getting a some sort of post-fight bonus. Lauzon is the owner of 12 bonuses and Danzig has four of his own so it’s a pretty safe bet. Rounding out the Main card will be a featherweight tilt between Chad Mendes and Nik Lentz.
Coming off a terrible 5-5 performance at The Ultimate fighter 18 finale, in which there were several upsets, the overall total dropped to 248-122 (67%) for the year. With just two UFC events left in 2013 the goal has now become to stay above the 67% threshold.
